FAQs

1. How long does it take to install a fiberglass pool?

Fiberglass pools are by far the quickest type of pool to install. From the delivery of the shell to your first dip in the water takes around 4 - 6 weeks. This average is for a typical fiberglass in-ground pool installation with simple concrete decking.

A larger project with retaining walls, larger patios, and extra features could take anywhere from 6-10 weeks, depending on the complexity. And, because we are in Kentucky, we have to remind that we are obliged to work with Mother Nature. If she is fussy with heavy rain, extreme temperatures, or has mischievously planted limestone in your back yard for us to uncover, she may extend the project timetable.

2. What is the typical cost of installing an fiberglass pool?

A typical installation in our part of Central Kentucky costs between $55,000 and $190,000. This covers a range from a basic in-ground installation with patio, up to a full backyard project with multiple features and add-ons. You will be surprised at how much pool you can get for your budget!

3. What are common problems with fiberglass pools?

We offer fiberglass in-ground pools because we believe that for our Kentucky conditions, they avoid many problems commonly seen with other pool types. The two main things to keep in mind with fiberglass pools:

  • They require very little maintenance compared to other pool types, but all pools need some maintenance. The pool water must be kept chemically balanced.
  • In-ground fiberglass pools can’t be fully drained without professional supervision, as the internal pressure of the water equalizes the external pressure of soil and groundwater.

4. What is coping?

Swimming pool coping is the cap or edge that is installed around the top lip of the pool. It joins the installed swimming pool to the surrounding deck. The coping gives swimmers a solid platform to stand on, or a comfortable surface to sit on while dangling your feet in the water. Typically made of stone, paver, concrete or brick, the coping provides a safe, non-slip entry into the pool, and the edging pieces are a large design element of your pool.

5. How much patio do I need?

Most folks need between 600 and 900 square ft. of patio around a pool. That’s enough room for a table and chair set, some chaise lounges, and a comfortable walking space around the perimeter of the pool. You can probably get by with less if you’re planning to install the pool next to an existing patio or deck, and you may need more if you’re planning to accommodate large groups of people or incorporate other elements such as an outdoor kitchen or fire pit.

6. Do the spas you install have openings, closings, and ongoing maintenance similar to the pools?

No, Sleepy Hollow Pools does not offer spa openings or closings at this time.  However, we do offer maintenance for any Aspen Spa.

7. Do the spas you install have covers that are sold separately?

All spas come with black covers, and both manual and hydraulic spa cover lifters are available.

8. Can my dog swim in my fiberglass pool?

Absolutely! The gelcoat surface on a fiberglass pool is smooth to the touch and durable. The surface isn’t just comfortable for people; it’s also resistant to dog nails, making it pet-friendly. Just remember to regularly check and clean your skimmer basket when your doggos swim, because all the fur that you aren’t cleaning off your sofa, you will end up emptying it out of your pool skimmer!

9. What if I want to add something to my pool or spa build after we’ve already gotten started?

We get it! Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know. If, after we have finalized the design and contract, you get inspired to add something else to your pool or spa build, we can do that! We will quote out any additions before starting, and always wait for your approval of the addendum to the contract before altering any plans.
